Wovenlight fiber art is all about finding beautiful natural fibers from a variety of animals and creating wonderful one of a kind creations with those fibers.
I begin with raw fiber, then I process it by washing, carding and spinning it by hand. The end result is gorgeous natural yarn that I knit into the final "artwork".
I have several angora rabbits that produce amazingly soft and luxurious fiber. Angora is 8 times warmer than wool yet it is absorbant and non-itchy so it is comfortably worn next to the skin. Angora garments are a natural treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and back pain, warming the area and increasing blood flow. Wrist cuffs, shawls, socks, mitts can all help with pain as well as looking marvelous!
I use fiber from sheep, goats (mohair), and alpacas. I have spun merino, shetland, and longwool leicester. I love them all! A mix of several fibers also makes a very nice yarn. Some have strength, some softness etc so a specific mix can be spun up to suit the product to be made.
I also use fibers from several of my animals to create needle-felted collectibles.
